Westwood International School (WIS) is a non-profit organization almost entirely dependent on fee income.
Our greatest strength lies in our commitment to learning together in a diverse and multicultural community, which respects the heritage of each individual. The members of our Senior Leadership Team, each has a diverse background, a wealth of knowledge, and are qualified to ensuring the success of our students. Mr. Jones is an international educator who has extensive experience, and in depth knowledge of all three IB programmes spanning over twenty-five years, as a teacher, examiner, teacher trainer and administrator.
Mr. Jones has worked on four different continents, and in ten different countries, thus giving him an extremely developed sense of cultural awareness.
In Africa, he has worked for a total of twelve years, eight years in Tanzania and four years in Zimbabwe.
He is a multi lingual and multi-cultural school leader - an English native speaker, who is also fluent in French and Spanish.
Mr Jones is joined here in Botswana by his French wife Martine.

Mrs Esme de Jager has more than 25 years of experience in education. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and is a certified Psychologist. As a lifelong learner, she has attended various advanced levels of PYP and IB Continuum Leadership training, as well as school exchanges. She passionately believes in the power and ability of education to guide and develop children in order to improve the world and shape their future.
Mrs de Jager is actively involved in the International Educational world and is trained as an ACE; NEASC/CIS School accreditation visitor and was also invited as a presenter at two IB world conferences; at The Hague in 2017 and in Vienna in 2018. At The Hague she spoke about one of her great passions: The power of Authentic Service Learning.
She found that the opportunity to be part of such an inspiring conference enriched her life and perspective tremendously and it enabled her to pass this on to the Primary Teaching Faculty through several in-school workshops and ongoing guidance and mentoring.

The WIS Council are the strategic leaders of our school and have a vital role to play in making sure every child gets the best possible education. Their purpose, reflected in the WIS Council Constitution, is to ‘conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school. They have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

Westwood International School is an English medium international school in Gaborone, Botswana. It was founded in 1988 with sponsorship from the American and British governments and in collaboration with the Botswana Ministry of Education. US, British and South African teaching materials are employed.
