Year 6S Conquer Magaliesburg
On May 19, the Year 6 Class of 2019 set off for Spirit of Adventure, in Magaliesburg, South Africa for a week long camp. The activities were mainly team building and leadership training and the students learnt a lot about themselves and their peers in an enabling environment.
There were many opportunities for the students to make decisions, reflect and practice conflict resolution without seeking adult intervention.
The Year 6s returned to WIS more aware of their strengths and weaknesses, rights and responsibilities. They were ready to transfer their learning to the school setting and to work as a team regardless of their personal differences.
“I enjoyed S.O.A and I am super tired after the trip. I hope 1 day I can go back and star gaze and abseil more.” Aisha
“I really enjoyed the camp. There were many exciting, thrilling and kind of scary activities. I went rock climbing, rafting, playing fox and hounds.” Reneilwe and Nia
“I liked the activity called rock climbing the best. If I can, I want to go back to Spirit of Adventure for rock climbing. It was 15 meters high. It was quite short for me. The learner profile l displayed was courageous”. Rose
