In addition to meeting admission criteria in relation to suitability to benefit from the academic programmes offered, students must meet the English language requirements for the year level into which admission is sought. Where English is an additional language (EAL), the school must be sure that the student will be able, through available EAL support, to access the curriculum.
What is an IB education?
International Baccalaureate® (IB) programmes aim to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. The Programmes strive to develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Is it easy for my child to start an IB Programme – PYP, MYP or Diploma if coming from another system?
Yes. We have children who come to the school who have studied in Cambridge system and other systems. Sometimes it takes time for a child to adjust to the IB system because we expect him or her to be an active learner.
Is it easy for my child to move into another system after studying an IB Programme?
We find that children usually adjust well to another system after leaving us. In terms of learning, we find that children leaving this school to join another system perform well.
Can Students join WIS at anytime of the year?
Our school community includes many expatriate families who move from one posting to another at different times of the year. We are happy to admit students to PYP and MYP classes at any stage of the school year if space permits and we will work hard to help them settle in this new environment.
What opportunities are there for students with English as their second language?
We have an English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialists who support children with limited English proficiency. This starts from day 1 and continues until the child is ready to exit the EAL programme.
Will the IB be recognized in my own country?
The International Baccalaureate PYP, MYP and Diploma programmes are well-recognised world-wide and many countries prefer to admit IB students rather than those from their national systems.
